Training and career
Op. Dr. Bilgehan İlker studied medicine at Trakya University Faculty of Medicine. After Türkiye's national medical specialty examination, she completed her specialist training in the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery at Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Medicine in İzmir.
She then worked in Istanbul's public teaching hospitals: first at Bağcılar Training and Research Hospital and later at Taksim Training and Research Hospital, both part of the University of Health Sciences. In both hospitals she served as administrative lead of the plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery clinic. Today she practises privately in Bakırköy.

How she works
On her Turkish website, Dr. İlker sums up what makes a good operation: technology alone is not enough; the surgeon has to plan carefully, understand what the patient actually needs and match the right procedure to the right person. She is just as direct about expectations. In her view, a surgeon who inflates them, or nudges a patient towards a more expensive operation, does that patient no favours.
- She sees you herself. Your examination, your plan and your operation are with Dr. İlker.
- She looks at the whole face or body. A heavy upper eyelid can come from a low brow; loose skin may need more than liposuction. The plan follows the cause, not only the first thing you noticed.
- She is clear about limits. She tells you what an operation cannot change: for example, that a revised scar will look better, but will not be gone.
- Suitability is decided in person. Messages and photos help her give a first opinion, but the decision is made at an examination in Istanbul, and you sign the consent forms before any procedure.
- Surgery takes place in a licensed hospital. Consultations, check-ups and many non-surgical treatments take place at the practice in Ataköy.

Frequently asked questions
Can I see a female plastic surgeon in Istanbul?
Yes. Op. Dr. Bilgehan İlker is a woman, and she carries out your examination and your operation herself. Some patients prefer a female surgeon, particularly for breast, body or intimate concerns. Whoever you choose, the questions that matter most are the same: specialist training, where the operation takes place, how risks are managed and what aftercare is planned.
What do 'Op. Dr.' and 'Uzm. Dr.' mean?
Both are Turkish titles for a doctor who has completed specialist training. 'Uzm. Dr.' (uzman doktor, specialist doctor) is the form used on Ministry of Health documents, including the practice's health tourism certificate. 'Op. Dr.' (operatör doktor) is the title customarily used by specialists in surgical fields. Both describe the same qualification: Specialist in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.
Will Dr. İlker perform my operation herself?
Yes. Your examination, your plan and your operation are with Dr. İlker. Every operation also involves other professionals, including the anaesthetist who looks after you during surgery and the hospital's theatre team. You are welcome to ask at your consultation who will be in the operating theatre and what each person does.
Where does Dr. İlker operate?
Operations take place in a licensed hospital in Istanbul, not at the practice. The practice in Ataköy, Bakırköy, is where consultations, examinations, check-ups and many non-surgical treatments take place. Ask for the name of the hospital before you book your travel, so that you can check it and plan where to stay.
How can I check Dr. İlker's credentials?
Start with the Ministry of Health's published list of practices authorised for health tourism, where her practice appears as Uzm. Dr. Bilgehan İlker Muayenehanesi. At your consultation, you can ask to see her medical degree and specialist certificate. It is reasonable to ask any surgeon for these documents, wherever you are treated.
